William was a signalman of the Lytham Lifeboat Station from 11th October 1895 to 9th December 1920. According to the Station Meeting Minutes he retired due to ill health on the 9th December 1920 but official retired on 4th February 1921 when his successor was appointed. William had received a pension from the Lifeboat Station after 25 years of service.
William died on 15thNovember 1921 in Lytham, Lancashire. The minutes from the Lytham Lifeboat Station dated 3rd March 1922 report his death (and coincidently that of his successor) and the Station AGM a few days later reported it was in November 1921.
