1919 – 2003


Dorothy Cameron Miller was born on 3rd June 1919 in Daisy Terrace, Wilpshire Road, Blackburn.  Her parents were Thomas Brooks Miller  and Mary Jane Kelly   



She married Frank Herbert Nicholson  on 6thJanuary 1945 at St Gabriel’s Church, Blackburn.  The witnesses were Norman Edward Todd, Annie Laura Postlethwaite, Thomas B Miller  M J Miller  and Agnes L Shaw. At the time Dorothy was listed as a munitions worker living at 212 Cornelian Street, Blackburn.



Dorothy lived with Frank and their son, William in various villages in Northamptonshire, where Frank was originally from,  including Raunds, Silverstone and later Moulton.  From 1980 to when she died, Dorothy lived in Chappel House, Moulton, first living in Flat 14 and then later moving to Flat 5.  

Dorothy died on 29thJuly 2003 in her flat in Chappell House, Moulton, Northamptonshire.  The cause of death was 1. Myocardial infarction and 2. Hypertension.  Her death certificate states that she was a retired college kitchen assistant and her death was registered by Catherine Marion Nicholson, Dorothy’s daughter in Law. 
Dorothy was cremated on 7thAugust 2003 at the Counties Crematorium, Milton Malser, Northampton.  Her ashes were scattered in the garden of remembrance but she did not have a memorial.

Dorothy left a Will which read as follows:

LAST WILL OF DOROTHY CAMERON NICHOLSON 1stFebruary 1974 I, Dorothy Cameron Nicholson of Number 11 Ashley Lane Moulton in the County of Northampton Widow hereby revoke all former Wills Codicils and other testamentary dispositions made by me and declare this to be my last Will.
1.    I APPOINT my son William Thomas Nicholson of 11 Ashley Lane Moulton aforesaid and Michael Lancelot Chrisp of 108 Euston Road in the County Borough of Northampton to be the Executors and Trustees of this my Will.
I DEVISE and BEQUEATH all my estate both real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever situate unto my Trustees Upon Trust to sell call in and convert the same into ready money and to stand possessed of the net proceeds so arising and my ready money upon trust to pay therefrom all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses and thereafter I Declare that my Trustees shall hold the residue of my estate whatsoever and wheresoever IN TRUST for my son William Thomas Nicholson (independently and without reference to his office) if he shall be living at the date of my death absolutely BUT if the said William Thomas Nicholson shall predecease me leaving a child or children living at the date of my death and who attain the age of eighteen years then such child or children shall take and if more than one equally between them the residue of my estate as tenants in common absolutely PROVIDED ALWAYS that if my said son William Thomas Nicholson shall predecease me without leaving a child or children living at the date of my death and who attain the age of eighteen years then I Declare tha  my Trustees shall hold the residue of my estate IN TRUST for such of them my great-niece and great-nephew Katherine Hughes and Martin Hughes of 22 Rangemoor Drive Rodmill Eastbourne as shall be living at the date of my death and if more than one in equal shares as tenants in common absolutely IN WITNESS whereof I the said Dorothy Cameron Nicholson have hereunto set my hand this First day of February One thousand nine hundred and seventy-four Signed by the above-named DOROTHY CAMERON NICHOLSON as her last will in the presence of us both present at the same time who in here presence at her request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnessW A Morney Solicitor with Browne and Wells Solicitors
