Winifred May Major was born on 3rdSeptember 1926 in Tranters Row, Towcesterm Northamptonshire.  Her parents were Edward John Major  and  Betsey Hammond.

Winifred married John Alexander Linnell on 7th August 1947 at Towcester Registry Office.  She was 20 years old.  The witnesses were her parents Betsy Hammond and Edward John Major.   At the time Winifred was listed as having no employment and living in Woodwards Yard, Towcester  


John and Winifred had three daughters, Christine May, Catherine Marion and Carolyn Mary.

Winifred, known as Win or Winnie, worked as a cleaner at Silverstone Race Circuit.  She had also been part of the Women’s Land Army during World War 2 where she was based in Wollaston, Northamptonshire

Winifred died on 23rd August 1994 in Northampton General Hospital. The cause of death was i) myocardial infarction, ii) coronary artery thrombosis, iii) coronary artery atherosclerosis.  She was living at 66 Kingsley Road, Silverstone.  Her death was registered by her son-in-law, Michael Lancelot Chrisp.

Winifred was buried on 31st August 1994 in the graveyard at St Michael’s Church in Silverstone, Northampton with her husband
